THEMISEDUCATIONOF A COPYWRITER.

Long before I understood the power of words, I understood the power of observation.
I was the boy in the corner. Watching. Listening. Absorbing. Or lying in fields of clover, staring into an impossibly big sky, wondering about the world and my place in it.
Curiosity came naturally. The words would come later.
College introduced me to Shakespeare, science fiction, and the beautiful possibilities of language. I discovered how words could invent worlds, challenge convention, and make the unfamiliar feel intimately human.
But an education can only take you so far.
LIT THE FUSE.LIFE TOOK CARE
OF THE FIREWORKS.

Chicago. New Orleans. Los Angeles.
I immersed myself in the beautiful, strange, sometimes uncomfortable corners of society. Nightclubs, backstreets, dance floors, and those peculiar little places where culture is born long before anyone thinks to give it a name.
I absorbed the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations. Bodies. Desire. Love and hate. Pleasure and pain. Joy and loss.
All of it became material.
Some things
harmonized.
Others collided.
I collected experiences the way a DJ collects records. Fragments of conversations. Unfamiliar faces. Contradictions. Unexpected connections. The extraordinary poetry of ordinary people.
I mixed them together, searching for the unexpected rhythm, the surprising connection, the possibility of creating something new from everything that came before.

There were mistakes, too. Heartbreak. Reinvention. The occasional spectacular failure. Moments that demanded I pay attention, especially when I would have preferred to look away.
And the simple, remarkable act of drawing another breath.
And somewhere along the way, there were dogs.
Uncomplicated creatures with an extraordinary capacity for honesty, loyalty, and joy. A reminder that not everything meaningful needs to be explained.
That was my education.
Not a straight line from classroom to career, but a lifetime of collecting, colliding, questioning, and connecting.
Because writing isn't simply the arrangement of words. It's the transformation of experience into meaning. Finding the human truth buried beneath the noise. Giving something familiar an unexpected voice.
I didn't learn to be a copywriter.
The copywriting came later.
Now, here's
what I've written.
The words, the thinking, and the stories behind the work. Select a project to explore.
Long-form & strategic
Brand books, strategic narratives, proposals, and the thinking behind the words.

I'm Michael Zydzik. A copywriter, brand storyteller, and lifelong student of people, culture, and the things that make us tick.
I've spent my career finding the right words for brands, campaigns, products, and ideas. Sometimes that's a headline. Sometimes it's an entire brand voice. Sometimes it's a story nobody knew needed telling.
